This is just a reminder that we share our natural community with other creatures in nature, including coyotes. There've been some recent sightings of coyotes walking down our streets at night. These creatures are generally shy and stay to themselves, but if you run across one, give them space and they'll be happy to go their own way. They serve a valuable place in our ecosystem as they help keep down other pests like rats and rabbits. However, a few years ago, coyotes took a cat from a back patio that was never seen again. This is rare, but we suggest that you not let your cats roam free at night or leave them on your patio unless your fence is quite high.
We have had several trees fall down in the past couple of years during storms in our Timberlane II community including a couple that caused significant damage to buildings and several “near misses”.
The high concentration of eucalyptus trees and pines in our area along with the drought-to-heavy-rain weather of the past few years has weakened or killed several trees here. The HOA Board had an arborist come in a couple of months ago to survey all our trees and he identified about 32 trees that are a serious safety risk. So we have contracted a tree removal company to have these trees removed and, in most cases to have the stumps also removed before this winter’s heavy storms arrive. There are at least twice that many more trees that are also showing weakness, but are considered a secondary safety issue for now. Tree removal is expensive and we want to keep as many trees on the property as possible for our aesthetics, but safety comes first. So, we are carefully removing dead and severely weakened trees and thinning clusters where eventual overgrowth is inevitable. This process will continue in the years to come. However, we are also planting many new trees each year here using species and placements that give the best aesthetics and will grow well in our area. We are all committed to keeping our community looking as nice as possible. You've probably seen that our landscape is looking so much better than it did a few years ago. It's not all that we want yet, but we are doing new beautification projects every month and we all have a continuing goal to add landscape/hardscape and refine current landscape to make our community even better and safer. |
